Meet Dr Simon Gilsenan (Chiropractor)
“I feel blessed to be part of a profession that I am so passionate about and am thankful I discovered chiropractic when I did.”
What I found to be the most empowering aspect of chiropractic is the emphasis on the recuperative power of the body to heal itself. Chiropractic focuses on the healing process without the use of drugs or surgery and encourages the body and spine to naturally realign and improve quality of life. I wanted to share this wholistic approach to health care with my family and friends and by doing so I chose to become the chiropractor I am today.
My Educational Experience
I started my initial 4 years of Chiropractic education at the Phillip Institute of Technology in Melbourne. I then later transferred to complete the last two years of my education at the Sydney College of Chiropractic where I graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in the year 1984. I began practicing in Campbelltown, Liverpool, Kensington and Woollahra for 9 years. I then decided to move and continue practicing in the Southern Highlands in 1993 and also kept a practice in Bondi Junction part time.
My Practice Philosophy and Care Objectives
Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasises the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.
The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.
Chiropractic specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions which are due to mechanical dysfunction of all joints but mainly the spine and the effects on the nervous system. All of us, through our daily lives put stress on our spines. This stress can be PHYSICAL; a back or neck injury, poor posture , lack of exercise etc. CHEMICAL; poor diet, medicines, drugs etc, or EMOTIONAL; job stress, family stress, lack of mental stimulation etc.
The body will react differently, from mild ache to being in severe pain. But almost always, the spine will “stiffen” in response. The Chiropractor will adjust the spine to restore it to it’s natural state of structure function and movement. Once the spine begins to function better, tissues will heal better, the nervous system will return to normal and pain and discomfort should ease.
A healthy spine must have all of the following;
- Healthy functional mobility
- Healthy functional stability
- Healthy alignment
- Healthy sensorimotor function
My Health Habits
I run a free bootcamp open to all of my clients early Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at the Moss Vale Walking track. This is to encourage my clients to be physically active, maintain fitness levels and maintain a healthy spine alignment (MOVE WELL, FEEL WELL)
Meet Dr Emma Burniston
(Chiropractor)
“I feel so fortunate to have turned my lifelong passion for chiropractic care into a career that allows me to help families and communities thrive.”
Emma’s passion for Chiropractic and health was born out of being a “Chiro Kid” herself. Since the age of 11, she was regularly checked by a chiropractor for general health and wellbeing of the spine, just like getting her teeth checked! Emma then went onto study and completed a 3 year Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and a 2 year Masters of Chiropractic at Macquarie University in Sydney. In 2009 Emma had the opportunity to work at The World Masters Game in Sydney, and then in 2010 she moved to London to seek new challenges and experiences.
To Emma’s surprise she ended up buying a small practice in Battersea London and built it into the flagship it is today, Northcote Chiropractic. Her one mission was to care and educate local families and professionals on the benefit of Chiropractic care. This led Emma to co-manage clients alongside women’s health physio’s, holistic dentist, myofunctional therapist, and functional GPs which gave her great insight into pregnancy, paediatric and air-way focused care while in London.
After 14 years in London Emma and her husband have chosen to move back to the Southern Highlands to raise their young family in the good old country air! Emma is super excited to care for families in the Moss Vale area, with all her experience that she has gained while away. Emma is a member of the International Chiropractic Paediatric Association as well as being a Webster Technique and Thompson technique certified practitioner. Emma is also a certified myomunchee practitioner. Her skills and techniques include Diversified, Thompson Technique, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Applied Kinesiology, and Activator.
When not in practice, Emma is trying to keep up with her 2 children! She loves to run, horse ride, ski/snowboard and worships Pilates practice. Emma looks forward to meeting you and caring for your family.
